This camp will consist of a non-traditional conditioning training approach that is sport specific to volleyball. It will include high intensity/anaerobic repetition interval work-rest, emphasizing volleyball specific muscle memory movements & sequencing. You can expect to also work on attacking and blocking footwork, block-attack series & movement sequences, combined with combinations of agility, speed & jump training. We will also be doing basic ball handling and partner pepper which will require you to bring your own volleyball (volleyballs will not be provided for the athletes).
In addition to the current coaches on our staff, we will once again be enlisting the assistance of Coach Creig Federico, Strength & Conditioning coach at various local colleges and clubs. Coach Federico has been a Volunteer Asst Coach for Wildcat Volleyball since 2006, when his daughter, Nikki, was a four-year NVHS-GVB Athlete. Here a current bio on Coach Federico: https://lewisflyers.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/coaches/creig-federico/2450
There will be a complete checklist of protocols, precautions and procedures available soon that specifically outline the IHSA Stage 2 guidelines that we ALL must follow. Here are a few so you are aware of what to expect:
We need for EACH ATHLETE to complete this questionnaire/Google Doc ASAP so we can utilize the information provided for our staff to properly plan progression strategies. Our goal is to gently reintroduce the athletes' bodies to the rigor of athletic performance and movement patterns. Ultimately, we want to avoid injury and we will do our best to minimize soreness as well. We can only prepare based on the honest information the athlete provides about what specific activity level (frequency, intensity and time) they have each been engaging in over the past four to six weeks prior to starting camp July 6. https://forms.gle/SaCHr3MVvjUNPB7aA
I hope this gives you enough detailed information to make an informed decision about registering for our upcoming summer camp! I do not yet have ANY information to share about the fall regarding school and/or tryouts. We are currently scheduled to start tryouts the week of August 10. This start date is determined by the IHSA and not NVHS or the coaching staff. Athletes must in ALL tryout sessions to be considered for a position in the program.
If you have any questions, you can contact me at [email protected]. Please include your daughter’s name and the year in school she will be entering for 2020-2021 when you send me your questions.
